Zero tolerance for bullying and sexual harassment

The AMA has issued two Position Statements advocating a zero tolerance approach to workplace bullying and sexual harassment.

The AMA Position Statement on Workplace Bullying and Harassment outlines the AMA’s commitment to work with the whole of the medical profession to stamp out bullying and harassment in medical workplaces. AMA President Professor Brian Owler said that bullying and harassment must be banished from all medical workplaces, and that the medical profession needed to take direct responsibility for its culture, reputation, and standards of professionalism.

The AMA Position Statement on Sexual Harassment in the Medical Workplace was developed in response to serious allegations of sexual harassment in the medical workforce that were highlighted in the media earlier this year. Professor Owler said the impact of sexual harassment is profound on both individuals and the workplace, and the medical profession
