UGPA supports integrating pharmacists into General Practice

United General Practice Australia, which comprises leading general practice organisations including the AMA, recently expressed concern that fragmentation of patient care could be the result of recent proposals to expand pharmacists’ scope of practice as a solution to medical workforce shortages.

Members of UGPA stressed the lack of evidence supporting the value of preventative health checks performed outside of general practice and acknowledged the value of integrating pharmacists into a medically led multidisciplinary team to ensure quality and continuity of patient care.
