TGA Medicine Shortages Website
GPs wishing to find up-to-date information on current, anticipated and resolved medicine shortages, as well as discontinued medicines, are reminded of the TGA’s Medicine Shortages Information Initiative searchable website.
The website, which provides a timely, consistent, and coordinated method for communicating medicine shortages in Australia, also provides links, where possible, to information on substitute medicines or therapeutic alternatives. An alert service has been set up so subscribers can receive instant notifications or a weekly newsletter on medicine shortages.
The website not only provides a single source of information for doctors, pharmacists and patients, but also cuts red tape for drug companies, which will now be able to report shortages by simply completing an online form.
