Stakeholder consultation: infant pneumococcal vaccination schedule

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) Secretariat has opened a public consultation on proposed changes to infant pneumococcal vaccination recommendations in The Australian Immunisation Handbook.

The changes are intended to improve protection in children beyond 12 months of age by moving the third dose of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine from 6 months of age to 12 months of age. ATAGI intends for this and other changes to improve disease control in older unvaccinated age groups through improving current herd protection.

GPs and health professionals that wish to make a submission are welcome to do so by following this link.: https://consultations.health.gov.au/ohp-immunisation-branch/infant-pneumococcal-vaccination-schedule-recommend/. The consultation closes on Monday 2 October 2017.
