Medicine recalls by the Therapeutic Goods Administration

AMA members should be aware of two medicine recalls from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA): MINIRIN (desmopressin acetate) 10 micrograms/actuation nasal spray, and Nature’s Way Kids Smart Vita Gummies Omega 3 DHA Fish Oil, Pastilles (soft gummies) 120’s.

A precautionary recall of all MINIRIN Nasal Spray (desmopressin acetate) batches was issued following the detection of low volume and out-of-specification results in desmopressin content in some vials. Sample testing revealed a batch was out-of-specification for both desmopressin (up to 155% of the targeted amount) and benzalkonium chloride (up to 120% of the targeted amount) contents. This could potentially result in an overdose of desmopressin.

Multiple batches of Nature's Way Kids Smart Vita Gummies Omega 3 DHA Fish Oil 120's and 60's, were recalled following a report of a serious allergic reaction to calcium sodium caseinate. The current label for this product does not declare the presence of milk products, but does list the presence of other allergens.

Due to the presence of milk products, this product poses a risk to children with a milk allergy and should not be consumed due to a risk of anaphylaxis.
