Liquor regulation decreases serious injury: MJA

There has been a significant decline in the number of critical and serious alcohol-related injuries presenting to St Vincent’s Hospital since the introduction in February 2014 of “lockout laws” at hotels and clubs in the Sydney CBD entertainment precinct, according to research published in this week’s issue of Medical Journal of Australia.

Also in this issue: a perspective article about the value of structured self-monitoring of blood glucose among people with non-insulin-treated type 2 diabetes; an editorial on abortion law and the need for legislative uniformity across Australia; and a news article on how antibiotic resistance is changing management of urinary tract infections in aged care.
