DHS Diagnostic Imaging Audits – impact to GPs

The Department of Human Services (Medicare) has advised that, as part of its upcoming desk-based audit of diagnostic imaging providers in mid April 2015, it will be contacting some GPs who have requested diagnostic imaging services and asking them to provide their original request and associated reports.

DHS expects the impact to these GPs will be minimal and DHS has stressed that the GP requestors are not the subject of this audit. The majority of requests from DHS will only ask for documentation for one or two diagnostic imaging services. Any test results in the requested reports can be blocked out.
