Australian Medicine: GPs are where the home is

In this week’s Australian Medicine the AMA President and Vice President discuss how the concepts of the Medical Home are already embodied in general practice, and that after repeated funding cuts and the freeze on Medicare rebates investment is needed if the Government’s Health Care Home concept is to improve patient care and reduce pressure on public hospitals.

In other news,  AMA President Professor Brian Owler has urged the Federal Government to reverse its decision to axe funding for BEACH one of the most extensive and sustained studies of general practice in the world, arguing the move is “completely at odds” with its stated primary care focus.
