AMA greets new Rural Health Commissioner

This week the AMA President, Dr Michael Gannon, met with the new Rural Health Commissioner, Professor Paul Worley, to discuss his new role and the development of the Rural Generalist Training Pathway. Also attending were Dr Tony Bartone (AMA Vice President) and Dr Sandra Hirowatari (Chair, AMA Council of Rural Doctors).

This initial meeting was productive and provided the AMA with the opportunity to discuss Professor Worley’s approach to the role as well as relevant AMA rural health policy. Professor Worley emphasised the need for ongoing dialogue with the AMA and has already agreed to meet with the President again early next year as well as attend the next face to face meeting of the AMA Council of Rural Doctors.
