$40,000 for Rural GPs to upskill - applications open

Eligible GPs in rural locations are invited to apply for the 2017 General Practitioner Procedural Training Support Program (GPPTSP) for a $40,000 Commonwealth subsidy.

The GPPTSP is for rural GPs looking to attain procedural skills in obstetrics or anaesthetics. By upskilling the rural workforce, women living in rural locations will have improved access to obstetric and anaesthetic services. The GPPTSP is funded by the Australian Government.

Successful applications will be awarded $40,000 to obtain either the Advanced Diploma of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRANZCOG Advanced) or Advanced Rural Skills Training in Anaesthesia. The initiative targets existing GPs in rural and remote areas and, accordingly, limits support to GPs practising in RA 2-5.

GPs interested in applying must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • They are defined as a GP as per the Application Guidelines
  • The physical location of their principle clinical practice or intended work location is in an ASGC-RA 2-5. Further information on ASGC-RA can be found at www.doctorconnect.gov.au

Applications are currently open and will run until the 23rd November 2017.

Applications for the Obstetric Component of the Program can be made the RANZCOG website and applications for the Anaesthetics component of the program can be made via the ACRRM websiteApplication Guidelines with further information about the application process are available to accompany the application forms.
