Specialty
Rural Generalism with Obstetrics
What drew you to medicine?
Medicine was an opportunity to contribute to community. I grew up in rural New South Wales with relatively inequitable access to health care. Raised by women, the GP Obstetrics aspect of my work is a means to give back to the women who supported and enabled by personal growth and career. Of course, a career in General Practice / Rural Generalism was pursued out of a desire to do it all – be the jack of all trades and master of none. Very quickly, my career has transitioned toward medicopolitical advocacy and leadership.
Who is your greatest hero or inspiration? Why?
My mum. Yes, I’m a mummy’s boy. Mum would have to be my inspiration through role modelling the behaviours and characteristics I believe are important in a person who contributes to society. As a single parent, she modelled courage, bravery, independence, leadership and determination.
How do you like to reset/de-stress?
Me time. I’m an extraverted introvert I think. There’s nothing more relaxing than some time to myself with a good TV show.
Favorite book/podcast/movie/tv show right now?
A good quality court room drama gets my attention. Recently, “Twelve” is a TV series that I couldn’t stop watching.
What’s the next destination on your must visit list?
I’d really like to visit Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand as an equal choice for my next holiday.
What’s an unusual thing about yourself that not many people may know?
I’m a bird man. I keep parrots, budgerigars and finches as pets.
What career would you have chosen if not medicine?
What a loaded question! I went through too many iterations of a career to consider. But, the big other fields of practice were: (1) Architecture, (2) Law, (3) Engineering, and (4) Zoology
What biscuit best describes your personality?
Monte Carlo
