Meet the Members Spotlight – Dr Elise Buisson

Our first eDiT Meet the Members Spotlight is on AMACDT Deputy Co-Chair Dr Elise Buisson.

Name

Elise Buisson

Pronouns

She/her

What country/state are you currently living and working in?

NSW

What do you do in the AMACDT?

I’m the Deputy Co-Chair of CDT alongside Dan Wilson. We keep busy trying to keep pace with our effervescent Chair, Hannah Szewczyk!

Specialty

Current Resident, aspiring O&G SRMO

What drew you to medicine?

I grew up in regional Queensland, and made it to year 12 with a provisional plan to become a hairdresser. My road to medicine from there involved a lot of high hopes and good luck! I have a real passion for caring for women in a way that empowers them to make well informed and supported decisions about their bodies and their lives. I feel very lucky to do the work we do.

Who is your greatest hero or inspiration?

My year 8 teacher, who just last week described me as “a very naughty student”. Endlessly patient, he used to write me letters in Wingdings (google it) to decode to keep me engaged. A saint! He reminds me how much impact a single person can have in altering the course of another person’s life.

How do you like to reset/de-stress?

You’ll find me out running down the Parramatta River most days. I love running the way other people love roller coasters – it's a tangible thrill. I also love roller coasters. There’s probably a connection.

Favorite book/podcast/movie/tv show right now?

I’m rereading Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex (with thanks to my undergrad Philosophy studies). Still such a meaningful reflection on the role of women in society.

What’s the next destination on your must visit list?

Anywhere far enough away from a city that you can see a proper sky full of stars.

What’s an unusual thing about yourself that not many people may know?

I come from a family of nurses – mother, father, little brother, maternal and paternal grandmothers. They keep me very grounded. You can just imagine the family get togethers

What career would you have chosen if not medicine?

I could see myself in Journalism. I think it’s similar to medicine in some ways - hearing people’s stories and presenting the truth back to them in a way that they can live with.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Probably still out running, possibly down a different river!
