Have you seen our Clear the hospital logjam campaign?

The AMA’s Clear the hospital logjam campaign sets out a comprehensive solution to fixing the decades-long underfunding problem in our hospital system. We want to make this federal election the one where the incoming government has committed to funding our hospitals for the future.

The AMAs 2022 Public Hospital Report Card  has also been launched which shows that since 2008 Australia has lost six public hospital beds for every 1000 people aged over 65 years.

“Our public hospital capacity must be expanded to meet the demands of a population that is increasing in size, age and suffering from multiple chronic health issues. This needs to be backed by greater investment in primary care, giving GPs the support they desperately need to keep people out of hospital.”

Dr Khorshid said the 2022 Public Hospital Report Card clearly demonstrated the growing pressure on emergency departments.

"We also know that underfunding of our public hospitals leads to other pressures in the system that impact on doctors in training such working long hours, and working large amounts of unrostered over time. This can impact on doctors health and wellbeing", said Dr Hash Abdeen, Chair, AMA Council of Doctors in Training.
