Do you feel comfortable with your PPE?

There is currently a lot of uncertainty around the availability of PPE, how it should be used for COVID-19 patients and the security of ongoing supply. This is putting a lot of stress on the workforce, particularly for Doctors in Training, who are on the front lines but are frequently not involved in these discussions at their institutions. In order to provide the best possible care to our patients, all healthcare workers must feel safe doing their job.

The AMA CDT is speaking with a number of stakeholders to ensure provision and supply of PPE is a priority, and that communication around these issues is both timely and clear.

All AMA leadership has constantly been making the case for additional PPE). Unfortunately there is still insufficient supply, despite genuine constructive efforts of governments. The Federal AMA President, Dr Tony Bartone, has raised access to PPE with the Health Minister, and will continue to advocate strenuously for more supply.

Likewise it is important that the medical profession uses our scarce PPE judiciously, and we have provided a synopsis of current recommendations here.

If you have feedback or concerns about PPE in your workplace, please let us know either via messaging this page or by emailing cdt.chair@ama.com.au
