National Medical Workforce Strategy Scoping Framework available

After lobbying from the AMA,  Part 1 of the National Medical Workforce Strategy (NMWS), the Scoping Framework, is now available. The Scoping Framework aims to identify and understand medical workforce issues that could benefit from a national approach. It was developed in collaboration with states and territories, specialist medical colleges, key medical professional associations and other key stakeholders and will guide long-term, collaborative medical workforce planning across Australia.

AMACDT Chair, Dr Tessa Kennedy, is on the steering committee advising on the development of the NMWS which will now address the issues raised in the Scoping Framework. Key issues AMACDT is pursuing relate to specialty and geographic maldistribution starting in training, and a number of issues surrounding training pathways for prevocational trainees’ postgraduate year 3 and beyond who are working as service registrars seeking entry into a vocational training program. Any proposed solutions must be sustainable, which includes supporting doctor wellbeing.

We would love to hear your feedback to ensure we can best represent the interests of all DiTs as the Strategy is developed – reach us at cdt.chair@ama.com.au.
