Call for applications: AMA Indigenous Medical Scholarship 2018

The AMA Indigenous Medical Scholarship is a recognition of the critical importance that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors play in the delivery of healthcare in Australia. Applications are now open for the Scholarship from eligible Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are studying medicine at an Australian university.

The Scholarship started in 1994 and since then has assisted over 20 Indigenous men and women in becoming doctors, providing financial assistance to allow for the completion of their degrees. Past Scholarship recipients have gone on to work in Indigenous and mainstream health services, while others provide healthcare in their own communities.

The Scholarship provides the successful applicant with $10,000 each year for the duration of their course. Preference will be given to applicants who do not already hold any other scholarship or bursary. Applications must be received 31 January 2018.

An application package can be downloaded from the AMA website. To receive further information on how to apply, please contact Sandra Riley, Administration Officer, AMA on 02 6270 5400 or email indigenousscholarship@ama.com.au.
