AMA submission calls for reform to after-hours arrangements
The AMAs submission to the MBS review includes a call for a broader package of reforms to Medical Deputising Services (MDS) arrangements to ensure high quality and appropriately targeted services are provided. The AMACDT is particularly concerned that doctors in training who work in these services are appropriately trained and supported, understand their billing responsibilities and appropriate billing of MBS items.
Financial penalties for incorrect billing or unsubstantiated payments can now be applied in addition to having to re-pay benefits. So it’s important that doctors in training who work in these services are aware of their billing responsibilities.
The AMA WA has produced an excellent information sheet to inform doctors in training about their billing responsibilities if they work for an after-hours home visiting service. The Federal AMA is very happy to partner with AMA WA to bring this information to you.
