Department confirms ongoing commitment to GP registrar academic posts

The AMA has been able to clarify the future of GP registrar academic posts, with the Department of Health confirming that the Government remains committed to supporting academic posts for GP registrars, recognising that this is an essential part of the Australian General Practice Training program framework. Dr Thiemt says this announcement will allow general practice to build capacity in this area to better evaluate current practice as well as inform future policy direction. Support for academic GPs is also critical to training the next generation
