Funding for John Flynn Placement Program under threat

Amidst growing concern about the future of the John Flynn Placement Program, the Department of Health has confirmed that funding for the program will be extended until 30 June 2015. The Department wants to consult about how the programme should be delivered after that and the AMA will be involved in those consultations. “Programs like the JFPP help medical students to develop an interest in rural medicine and encourage them to take up a career in regional, rural and remote areas,” said Dr James Churchill, Chair AMACDT. “This is another great program under threat and the AMA will be talking to the Department about what steps we can take to ensure it continues.”
