What is it?
Emergency medicine clinicians are 'acute generalists' with specialist skills in resuscitation and diagnosis in the acute phase of illness.
With a strong belief in evidence-based medicine and a wide range of procedural and technical skills, emergency medicine clinicians provide care for patients in all age groups and with a wide range of clinical needs.

To commence training at the start of the following Medical Training year.
Annual Training Fee: AUD $1,601
Primary Examination Fee (Written): AUD $1,896
Primary Examination Fee (Viva): AUD $2,106
Fellowship Examination Fee (Written): AUD $2,491
Fellowship Examination Fee (Clinical OSCE): AUD $3,521
Total training time
5 years (full-time)
- 12 months (full-time) Provisional Training
- 48 months (full-time) Advanced Training (including 6 months (full-time) in critical care, 6 months of discretionary training and 6 months non-ED time)
Up to 6 months (full-time) during Provisional Training and 12 months (full-time) during Advanced Training may be undertaken in overseas training positions with prior approval.
Number of assessments per annum
Provisional Training: ACEM Primary Examination (written and viva)
Advanced Training: ACEM Fellowship Examination (written and clinical)
Workplace Based Assessments required during Emergency Medicine Placements in Advanced Training
