New President for AMA(SA)

Dr Michelle Atchison is the new President of AMA(SA).

Dr Atchison is a private psychiatrist who specialises in the treatment of the psychological effects of trauma. She was elected as President at the AMA(SA) AGM on 6 May, assuming the position after a two-year term as Vice President under the outgoing President, Dr Chris Moy.

The incoming Vice President is Port Lincoln general practitioner (GP) and AMA(SA) Councillor Dr John Williams.

Dr Atchison is a foundation member of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists’ (RANZCP) Faculties of Forensic Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry, and has been actively involved in representing private practice within the RANZCP. She is the past Chair of the RANZCP’s SA Branch and represents South Australia at the Federal level at the RANZCP in registrar training and advocacy roles.

She has been chair of the AMA(SA) Council since February 2020 and is a member of the Federal AMA’s Medical Practice and Council of Private Specialist Practice committees. In her spare time Dr Atchison plays online bridge, reads a lot of science fiction, and barracks loudly for the Crows.

Dr Williams has been a GP at Port Lincoln for 16 years. He has practised in the United Kingdom, has special interests in plastics and emergency medicine, and earned a Diploma in Music from the University of Adelaide.

Dr Atchison and Dr Williams will be publicly welcomed into their new roles at the AMA(SA) Gala Dinner on 22 May 2021.
