AMA Submission in response to Ahpra draft Data Strategy
The AMA submission welcomes Ahpra having a strategy to make more effective use of data to reduce duplication by better integrating data input and removing the requirement for multiple input of the same data, increasing consistency in decision-making and in speeding up Ahpra’s workflow.
However, the AMA has significant concerns around a number of the proposals outlined in the draft strategy.
In particular, the AMA is concerned that the strategy includes:
- proposals to continue to include historic disciplinary action taken against practitioners – even when they have undertaken the necessary remedial action.
- enabling third party reviews – the AMA considers this is unbalanced and tilts the draft strategy towards being too strongly focused on the more negative punitive aspects of data use.
- Information sharing with other bodies without the knowledge or permission of health practitioners
- Use of “predictive analytics” where it is not clear what the source data for the information will be.
