AMA submission to the Department of Health – National Medicines Policy Review
In this submission, the AMA outlines 29 recommendations to improve the current and future medicines environment and to meet the current NMP objectives.
This includes: Australia’s broader health system must be supported to uphold NMP objectives, such as better funding/resources for general practice, hospitals and aged care. Pharmacy ownership and location rules should be changed to increase medicines access and reduce the cost of medicines. A comprehensive strategy must be developed to mitigate against the risk of medicine shortages. Continuity of care must be improved to harbour quality use of medicines.
