AMA submission to Department of Health consultation 2a on modernisation of Part B of the Prostheses List
Part B of the Prostheses List (PL) deals with the use of human tissue, which is always a sensitive issue. Technology is changing rapidly in this area, and the system must be prepared for the questions and issues that will arise going forward.
The AMA’s submission argues that modernisation of the Part B of the Prostheses List must proceed with an appropriate balance between the desired policy and health outcomes and the ethical issues involved. It also argues that the Department’s Consultation Paper 2a is a good beginning to a bigger body of work that must be undertaken to allow all stakeholders to fully comment or endorse any approach proposed to modernise Part B of the PL.
