10 Minimum Standards for Advancing Digital Health in General Practice

At its meeting on 28 July 2022, the AMA Federal Council approved a set of 10 Minimum Standards for Advancing Digital Health in General Practice to support the work of the Digital Health Sub-Committee. This document brings together numerous statements on the appropriate standards to guide and advance the application of digital health in general practice articulated in other recent AMA position statements and submissions.

In addition to setting out foundational principles for data governance (e.g., patient privacy and ethical use of data) and interoperability (i.e., seamless compatibility with practice and hospital software and electronic health records) the document also covers a wide range of issues relevant to general practice.

These standards will add to the AMA’s existing suite of 10 Minimum Standards for Communication between Health Services and General Practitioners and Other Treating Doctors, Medical Forms, Prescribing and Telemedicine. These documents are a statement of the minimum prerequisites the AMA would like to see in place for these matters.
