AMA Partners with National Congress of Australia's First Peoples

The AMA has strengthened its relationship with the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples by entering into a Supporters Accord, which recognises the AMA's support for the unique position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia.

By implementing this Accord, the AMA and the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples will work in partnership to:

  • Promote measures that advance stronger relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians, including in relation to anti-racism and reconciliation;
  • Promote the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in the Australian Constitution (subject to this having broad support from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples); and
  • Promote the domestic implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples is a national voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. www.nationalcongress.com.au
