Wounds Australia hosts its 2022 conference in Sydney next week with AMA Vice President Dr Danielle McMullen one of the opening plenary speakers.

week as one of the conference opening plenary speakers. Dr McMullen will speak on the topic ‘Wounds in Australia – the role of General Practice and Multidisciplinary Care’.

The conference, hosted by Wounds Australia, brings together experts and delegates from around the world to discuss current developments, innovations, practice and research in wound prevention and management.

The AMA recently launched its report ‘Solutions to the chronic wound problem in Australia’ outlining the ways in which modest targeted investment by the government towards wound care in general practice could return a saving to annual healthcare costs of almost $9 for every $1 spent.

As general practice is cheaper than receiving care through a hospital outpatient clinic or other community healthcare setting, the AMA’s modelling estimates that an investment of $23.4 million in the delivery of evidence-based wound care would save the health system $203.4 million, across the forward estimates.
