AMA Awards season kicks off with AMA Victoria President admitted to Roll of Fellows
The first of the 2023 AMA Awards has been presented to Dr Jill Tomlinson who was admitted to the AMA Roll of Fellows.
AMA Victoria President Dr Jill Tomlinson has received the first AMA Award of 2023 being admitted to the AMA Roll of Fellows. AMA President Professor Steve Robson will be travelling the country over the coming months to present further awards in each state.
Dr Tomlinson is a plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon who runs an innovative, technology-led private practice, established in 2013.
With more than 20 years of clinical, research and leadership experience, Dr Tomlinson has been actively involved with the AMA Victoria Board since 2017, and has served as Vice-President (2022–23), Chair of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (2019-22), and Area Representative on Federal Council (2016–21).
Dr Tomlinson has chaired the Australian Health Digital Agency’s Specialist Toolkit Steering Group and co-chaired the Victorian Department of Health’s Clinical Informatics Council. Her personal advocacy showed errors in Ahpra directions in the use of social media, resulting in changes to regulations in 2014.
As inaugural chair of the AMA’s Digital Health Subcommittee Dr Tomlinson has built a committee with remarkable digital health expertise. Her work has resulted in the development of the AMA Digital Health Vision Statement – Preamble 2021: a clearly defined perspective on the future of digital health in Australia.
Dr Tomlinson has received national awards and held medical leadership positions in organisations including the Victorian Medical Women’s Society, the Australian Federation of Medical Women, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She has been a specialty editor with the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery since 2012 and is a published author in international journals. Dr Tomlinson is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a faculty member of the RACS Academy of Surgical Educators, and a PADI certified deep scuba diver who has run two marathons!
