Nervous days ahead for Perth, Melbourne, with new cases

New restrictions have been introduced in Perth and Melbourne this week after new cases of community transmission linked to hotel quarantine in both cities.

The Western Australian capital went into a sharp five-day lockdown after a security guard tested positive to the highly infectious UK strain in WA’s first case of community transmission in 10 months.

Mandatory mask wearing indoors and caps on gatherings were reintroduced in Melbourne, and up to 600 Australian Open tennis players and officials have been told to isolate and get tested, after a hotel quarantine worker tested positive to COVID-19 on Wednesday night.
