Help the AMA achieve gender equity

The AMA is committed to achieving gender equity in its leadership and representative structures and has teamed up with the ‘Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership Project’ to drive change. Help us achieve and exceed our targets by completing a survey before 6 March.

The AMA has been reporting on gender diversity since 2019. It recently reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a target of 40 per cent women, 40 per cent men and 20 per cent flexible for all Federal AMA Councils, Committees and Boards.

To date, the AMA has not met its targets.  In 2020, 65 per cent of representative positions on Federal AMA Councils and Committees were held by men, 31% were held by women and 3% were held by a person of unspecified gender.

Through our partnership with the Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership Project, we want to understand what has worked and what still needs to be done to increase the number of women in AMA leadership positions and more broadly within the healthcare sector. 

The overall gender diversity target is for women to hold 50 per cent of Federal AMA representative positions by 2024.

Your contribution will help us develop the corporate interventions to advance women in leadership at the AMA. With International Women’s Day just around the corner, it’s a good time to take action for the advancement of women in the sector.
