The AMA and Doctors for the Environment have a number of exciting events scheduled in coming weeks.
The AMA in 2019 joined other health organisations around the world in recognising climate change as a health emergency. The AMA continues to advocate for action on climate on these grounds and works with partner organisations including Doctors for the Environment (DEA) to ensure the health profession does its part to reduce emissions.
Dr Eugenie Kayak from DEA is one of the speakers at the AMA National Conference panel today entitled ‘Climate change is the greatest threat to Australians’ health, but what action can hospitals and medical practices take?’.Registration for the conference is still open.
The AMA and DEA will be hosting a webinar on climate change and sustainable healthcare on Tuesday 9 August. The webinar will feature speakers from DEA along with Professor Nick Tally, Editor-in-chief of the Medical Journal of Australia and Professor Alexandra Barratt, University of Sydney Professor of Public Health. The webinar will be opened by Minister for Health and Aged Care the Hon. Mark Butler.
Further on the calendar is the iDEA conference, with more details to be covered in AMA Rounds in the weeks ahead.
