Combating compassion fatigue

Drs4Drs have a timely reminder for doctors to protect themselves against burnout and compassion fatigue.

Drs4Drs have a timely reminder for doctors to protect themselves against burnout and compassion fatigue.

The medical profession can be challenging in many ways, as doctors are often expected to offer care and compassion in a fast-paced and stressful work environment. If unaddressed, this can be one of the causes for burnout. However, there are steps you can follow to recharge your “emotional bank account”.

As important as it is to take care of others in your job, make sure to take some time out to take care of your own emotional needs as well.

Building strong relationships can be a good way to combat compassion fatigue, by showing understanding for each other. Reach out to people you trust to ensure you are “filling” your emotional bank account.

Please also remember that you are not alone. Drs4Drs is here to help you, your spouse/partner and colleagues. Reach out to GPs and other specialists trained in doctor’s health.
