Dozens of AMA members have received honours this Australia Day.

Dozens of AMA members have received honours this Australia Day.

The Australian Medical Association congratulates the 24 members who have been recognised for their services to medicine and the community in today’s Australia Day Honours list.

The recipients include Professor Geoffrey Dobb, who has held a number of leadership positions in the AMA, including being a former Vice President of the AMA, who was made a Member of the Order (AM) in recognition of his services to intensive care medicine and to professional associations.

Three AMA members were made Officers of the Order (AO). They are: Professor Susan Kurrle for distinguished service as a geriatrician and research into dementia; Professor Mark Cook for distinguished services to neurological medicine and research and Professor Steven Collins for services to medical and health science research.

Dr Roger Sexton was made a Member of the Order (AM) for his significant work for medical practitioners and professional associations. Dr Sexton has had a long involvement in the AMA and has worked tirelessly to promote doctors’ health, including various roles in Drs4Drs, a service established by the AMA to fund and coordinate doctors’ health advisory services around the country.

AMA President Professor Steve Robson said all recipients had distinguished themselves and had served the medical profession and the community with distinction.

“On behalf of the AMA I congratulate all of today’s recipients. Our members have done us proud with their exceptional dedication and service.”
