Staying healthy with Drs4Drs

Drs4Drs has a message for doctors and students on staying healthy.

We know that doctors experience physical and mental health problems just as their patients do. However, with the prolonged challenges of COVID, long working hours, pressure to perform in the workplace, in training programs and exams, doctors can be even more susceptible to suffering from stress and burnout.

Drs4Drs has been developed by the medical profession for the medical profession, providing two confidential, free and supportive doctors’ health advisory and referral services.

Each state and territory offers their own helpline, which is staffed with GPs and other specialists trained in doctors’ health. These services do not offer crisis or emergency support but are a first point of contact for yourself to a colleague.

In addition to this, Drs4Drs has established a mental health support service, 1300 Dr4Drs (1300 374 377), for doctors, doctors in training and medical students, which is free, confidential, 24/7 and offers crisis as well as non-urgent mental health support. The service is provided by experienced counsellors and psychologists, who have completed specific Drs4Drs training, in addition to their own professional qualifications.
