Regular exercise is key to leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle — not just for patients but also for doctors. The beneficial aspects of exercising have been associated with an overall increase in mental wellbeing and contributing to better cardiovascular health and sleep. As we are at the beginning of summer, sunshine and warm temperatures are ideal conditions for sports outdoors.

However, doctors’ and medical students’ lives are busy and so it might seem impossible to fit the recommended 150 minutes into our daily routines. Despite this, small amounts of exercise can go a long way — whether it is taking the stairs instead of the elevator or taking a long walk during lunchtime.

We would also like to remind you that Drs4Drs is here for you around the clock, offering a 24/7, free and confidential support service for doctors and medical students all over Australia. State and territory-based services can be accessed via the Drs4Drs website drs4drs.com.au/getting-help.

In addition to this, Drs4Drs also provides a tele-psychology support line at 1300 Dr4Drs (or 1300 374 377) for crisis and non-urgent care. Trained and experiences psychologists and counsellors to talk to are just a phone call away, so if you need advice or support, please reach out.
