National Palliative Care Week is 23-29 May
The theme Palliative Care: It’s more than you think aims to raises awareness about the many benefits of quality palliative care.
National Palliative Care Week is organised by Palliative Care Australia and is an opportunity to promote the dedication of all the health professionals and volunteers working in palliative care across the country.
The theme Palliative Care: It’s more than you think is intended to debunk the myth about palliative being only a synonym for end-of-life care, when it is so much more than that.
The AMA is a strong advocate for equity of access across Australia to appropriate palliative care. Advance care planning, respite care, bereavement support, supporting carers and other relevant services are all crucial to end-of-life care.
Palliative Care Australia encourages events or promotion on this theme. More information and resources are available on their website [link].
They will also be hosting a live, public webcast: Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care live webcast [ webcast link] on Wednesday 26 May – 12pm midday AEST, to discuss key findings from their survey Australians’ attitudes and awareness of palliative care. This will be hosted by ABC presenter Di Darmody.
