Professor Jenny May AM appointed National Rural Health Commissioner

The AMA welcomes Professor May’s appointment and is looking forward to working with her on important reforms to rural health in Australia.

The AMA has welcomed the appointment of Professor Jenny May AM as the next National Rural Health Commissioner.

Professor May brings more than 35 years of experience as a rural GP and is a leading expert in this field.

AMA President Professor Steve Robson said: “We congratulate Professor May and look forward to working closely with her to provide better access to health care for people living in rural Australia”.

The AMA has a strong rural health policy platform, covering all aspects of rural health care delivery.

Professor Robson said the AMA looked forward to working with Professor May on these issues when she takes over the role in September.

Professor Robson also commended the outgoing commissioner, Adjunct Professor Ruth Stewart.

“Adjunct Professor Ruth Stewart has been a real champion for change, putting the needs of rural Australians front and centre in health policy development,” he said.
