60-day dispensing advocacy puts consumers first
The Consumers Health Forum is spearheading the campaign to dispel myths about 60-day dispensing
The Australian Medical Association is supporting a campaign from the Consumers Health Forum (CHF) aimed at countering the myths about 60-day dispensing of certain medicines.
Thanks to the proposed change people will be able to buy 60 days’ supply of selected Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) funded medicines for the price of a 30-day supply — effectively halving the cost of these medicines.
Data out of the Australian Bureau of Statistics last year showed some people chose to delay or not buy important prescription medication because they could not afford to.
CHF CEO Elizabeth Deveny said that many people are struggling with cost of living pressures and are having to choose between healthcare and other family essentials.
“Every dollar saved at the pharmacy is money that can be spent on groceries or rent,” Dr Deveny said.
“This change will save the average patient up to $180 a year for some of the most common medicines.”
