Private specialists invited to nominate to represent members on AMA Federal Council.

A casual vacancy now exists on the AMA Federal Council for the practice group representative for private specialist practice. Nominations for this position are now open.

The role of Federal Council is to:

  • Form the policy of the AMA; 
  • Propose changes to existing policy; and 
  • Elect representatives to roles and committees   

Any member who is part of this practice group is eligible to nominate for the position. The role of a practice group representative includes representing medico political issues on behalf of members within their practice group.

Federal Council normally meets four times each year either in person or by video conference and Councillors are also expected to participate on one or more committees/councils of Federal Council.

The AMA has adopted a target of 40% women, 40% men, and 20% flexible for all AMA Councils, Committees and Boards, with a gender diversity target of women holding 50% of Federal AMA representative positions overall by 2024. AMA members are invited to help achieve these targets. These targets will be taken into consideration in making the final appointment.
