AMA/DoH webinar on the scope of practice review
AMA members are invited to take part in the webinar and submit questions ahead of the event.
Members are invited to hear first-hand from Professor Mark Cormack about the federal government’s Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce - Scope of Practice Review at a webinar on 30 January.
The webinar is an opportunity to hear from Professor Cormack about the soon-to-be released Issues Paper 1 of the review, including the evidence gathered to date, emerging themes, key questions for further exploration and next steps.
The review, which resulted from the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report is a 12-month program that is examining the evidence and perspectives about how scope of practice in the context of the multidisciplinary care team can contribute to best practice primary care as the core of a safe, effective and modern health system.
It is drawing on examples of multi-disciplinary teams where team members are working to their full scope of practice to deliver best practice primary care and is looking at what is standing in the way of applying full scope of practice for health professionals and how those hurdles might be overcome.
The webinar will be followed by a roadshow in February with events held around the country in which key stakeholders can come together to comment on the issues paper and advise and shape the next steps of the review. The department is looking for expressions of interest from health professionals, regulators, insurers, and others with an interest in primary care to join the department at these key events.
You can read the AMA’s submission to the review on our website. Our submission highlighted the need for any reform in scope of practice to be firmly focused on patient safety, be evidence based following well established processed and occurring in a collaborative rather than fragmented setting.
