Concern about NSW plan to start re-opening from COVID-19 lockdown
The AMA calls on NSW Government to release updated modelling showing impacts of easing COVID restrictions.
The AMA is calling for the New South Wales Government to release updated modelling showing impact of easing COVID restrictions on health system.
The plan to start reopening from the COVID-19 lockdown was released yesterday, but lacks sufficient detail, including a lack of modelling on future case numbers and impacts on the health system.
AMA President Dr Omar Khorshid and AMA NSW President Dr Danielle McMullen said that although the NSW Government stated it was following the Doherty modelling prepared for National Cabinet, it seems to have ignored warnings that easing restrictions when contact tracing systems were already overwhelmed would lead to higher case numbers and a greater burden on the health system.
