Calling doctors! Expressions of interest for appointment to the Health Practitioner Panel of the SA Health Practitioners Tribunal
Deadline extended to Monday 8 October 2018
SA Health is calling for expressions of interest for appointment to the Health Practitioner Panel of the South Australian Health Practitioners Tribunal.
The Tribunal was established on 1 July 2010 under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (South Australia) Act 2010 (the National Law). It hears disciplinary proceedings against health practitioners registered under the National Law and appeals from persons against a decision of the national health regulatory board.
It is extremely important to have doctors serve on the Tribunal.
Health practitioners appointed to the Tribunal provide assistance to other members on what is considered to be professional and acceptable conduct for their profession. This is not specialty-specific.
If there are not enough doctors on the Panel, the government may look to reduce the required number of doctor members for a Tribunal looking at a matter relating to a doctor from two to one, to avoid hearings being delayed.
Expressions of interest are due Monday 8 October 2018 - an extended deadline beyond that first advertised, and require filling out a short form; providing a short statement of suitability, including details of two referees; and a brief CV. The form and details are available here. For further information call Andrea Trinca at SA Health, 8226 6057 or email HealthPolicyLegislation@sa.gov.au.
Serving on the Panel serves health and the profession, so the AMA(SA) strongly encourages eligible members who meet the criteria and believe they have the qualities needed for this important role to send in an expression of interest.
