medicSA Autumn 2023

The Autumn issue of medicSA is available now.

Members of the AMA in South Australia may not be aware that President Dr Michelle Atchison is the daughter of globally acclaimed political cartoonist Michael Atchison, whose daily depictions of this state’s issues and individuals entertained readers of The Advertiser, among others, for decades.

To coincide with her reflection on her two-year presidency, Dr Atchison has kindly given us permission to publish two of Mr Atchison’s cartoons in the Autumn issue of medicSA. The themes in these cartoons, including the one on the cover, are as relevant today as they were when first penned – and we didn’t even start on Mr Atchison’s takes on the Britannia Roundabout!

Also in the Autumn issue, we report on how doctors are preparing for any introduction of the new payroll tax that is distressing so many doctors in the eastern states, and what the implementation of VAD legislation in January means for the state’s doctors.

On a lighter note, we applaud the medical graduates of the University of Adelaide and Flinders University medical schools, including AMA(SA) Student Medal winners Dr Elly Sarre and Dr Kritika Mishra, and showcase the frolics and finery at recent colleagues’ social events.
