AMA(SA) abortion submission recognises diversity of members' views

The AMA(SA) has provided a submission to the South Australian Law Reform Institute, which is reviewing the state's abortion laws.

The submission notes the varying opinions about abortion among its members, and refers to the AMA Position Statement on Conscientious Objection 2019 in recommending that any changes to legislation enable doctors to refuse to provide or participate in medical or surgical termination based on a conscientious objection.

However, as explained in the Position Statement, 'access to reproductive medicine, including abortion, should be free from political or religious interference' (Preamble, 1.1).
