There are additional resources that can assist you in managing your employees. To help our members with the more complicated day-to-day matters, we have created the following resources to assist in compliance with appropriate legislation.

AMA Queensland Award Subscription Service

An ever-changing system can make it difficult to ensure compliance with current legislation. By subscribing to AMA Queensland’s Award Subscription Service, you will receive time-saving updates direct to your inbox as they happen. These updates include changes made to:

  • the Health Professionals and Support Services Award;
  • the Nurses Award;
  • the minimum rates of pay for reception, allied health and nursing staff; and
  • applicable legislation.

You also receive:

  • monthly newsletters on common issues found within the health industry awards; and
  • discounts to workplace relations training events and webinars.

Contract templates

Ensure your employment contracts are compliant with the most current legislation and the applicable modern award. AMA Queensland’s Workplace Relations Team has created employment contract templates for practice support staff, nurses, scientists, operational staff and doctors that are customised to the provisions under the health industry awards.

Templates are available at discounted rates for members in the following packs:

  • Health Professionals and Support Services Award / Nurses Award contract templates
  • Individual Flexibility Agreements
  • Employee Doctor contract template

The Workplace Relations Team can also review practice contracts to ensure they are up-to-date and compliant with the latest legislation. Where appropriate, the team can complete contracts for the whole practice on a consulting basis.

If you are a member working in a private practice as either an employee or service provider, we are also able to provide you with assistance.

Fact sheets

We have a suite of fact sheets relevant to your private practice. Please note some that some of the fact sheets listed below will be specific to either the Queensland or Australian industrial relations system.

Long service leave

Long service leave is an entitlement granted to employees in recognition of a long period of service with their employer. This entitlement applies to full-time, part-time and casual employees; however, the accrual rate is different for each employment status.

Long service leave is an entitlement that forms a part of the National Employment Standards (NES). As the NES cannot be contracted out of, it is important that all employee entitlements are calculated correctly in line with the applicable federal or state legislation.

Once the set rate has been paid for a calculation of an individual employee, 50 per cent of the original fee will apply for any future adjustments.
