MJA editor clarification

The Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) Board is concerned about speculation and the spreading of misinformation around the position of MJA Editor.

The Board yesterday announced new editorial arrangements for the Journal following the departure of the previous Editor.

There has been correspondence sent to the AMA that contains comments that are inaccurate, misleading, or simply wrong.

There have also been stories in the media, especially the medical press, that contain uninformed allegations and assumptions.

The Board wishes to clarify that the previous Editor did not depart the MJA over matters of editorial independence.

The Board remains committed to providing an independent and high quality medical research Journal.

The Board also wishes to clarify that the recruitment of all MJA staff is a matter for the Australasian Medical Publishing Company (AMPCo), publisher of the MJA, and not the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
