Launch of AMA Safe Hours Audit

Ground Floor Conference Centre

AMA House

69 Christie Street, St Leonards, NSW

There are still too many doctors working unsafe hours in Australian public hospitals, according to an audit of hospital working conditions to be released tomorrow by the AMA.

The audit – an analysis of 2011 data gathered from public hospital doctors around the country – shows that a high percentage of doctors are working hours that are classified as high risk or significant risk.

The AMA Safe Hours Audit will be released by AMA Vice President, Professor Geoffrey Dobb, who works and teaches in a public hospital in Perth, and the Chair of the AMA Council of Doctors in Training, Dr Will Milford.  Will is a fifth year Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee working at Redcliffe Hospital in Brisbane.

Professor Dobb and Dr Milford will discuss the detailed findings of the audit and reiterate the AMA’s call on governments and hospital administrators to improve rostering and work practices for doctors working in public hospitals.
