Urgent appeal for rehab specialists

21 Dec 2016

The Queensland Government is seeking rehabilitation specialists to serve on independent medical assessment tribunals adjudicating on the treatment of those suffering serious personal injury at work or in motor vehicle accidents.

Following the implementation of the National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland has extended the jurisdiction of independent medical assessment tribunals that were established within the workers’ compensation system.

The tribunals will now be asked to resolve disputes about entitlement to treatment, care and support payments for those who have suffered serious personal injury which meets the eligibility criteria set out under the NIIS, and whether particular care and support services are necessary and reasonable.

The expanded jurisdiction of the tribunals includes injuries arising from both workplace and motor vehicle accidents, and requires the appointment of rehabilitation specialists to the general medical assessment tribunal.

Suitably qualified specialists interested in serving on these tribunals are asked to contact AMA Secretary General Anne Trimmer at by 11 January, 2017.
