The AMA 2011 National Conference will be held in Brisbane on 27-28 May. As part of the conference, the AMA will be hosting its annual DiT leadership development dinner on Friday 27 May 2011. All doctors-in-training and medical students are invited to attend. Partners and guests are welcome.

The keynote speaker will be Major General Mick Slater who, as Chair of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, is overseeing the State's recovery and rebuilding from this year's floods and cyclones.

A Queensland native, Major General Slater has a distinguished record of leadership and courage. Since joining the Australian Army in 1978, Major General Slater has led operations in East Timor, served with the US Army headquarters in Kuwait, and was second-in-command to Peter Cosgrove in the clean-up of north Queensland after Cyclone Larry in 2006.

He holds masters degrees in strategic studies and business administration,and has undertaken formal education in mobilisation and logistics in the United States. He was seconded to the Reconstruction Authority from his role as commander of 1st Division, based at Enoggera, Brisbane.
