Phelps re-elected AMA President unopposed

AMA President, Dr Kerryn Phelps, was this evening re-elected unopposed as Federal AMA President for a further period of twelve months to commence from the time of the AMA Federal Council Meeting on 27 May 2001.

Under Standing Order 19 of the AMA National Conference Standing Orders, clause 19.3 states:

"If only one candidate be nominated for any office, such candidate shall at once be declared by the Returning Officer to be elected."

Nominations for election to the Positions of President, Vice President, Chairman of Council and Treasurer closed at 5.00pm today, Friday 11 May 2001.

Dr Phelps was the only nomination for President of the AMA.

Under the same standing order, Dr Trevor Mudge has been returned as Vice-President and Dr Allan Zimet has been returned as Treasurer. Theirs were the only nominations received for these positions.

There were no nominations for Chairman of Council. This position will be filled at the Federal Council Meeting on 27 May.
